After graduating from Cambridge, Virginia Luis Fuentes spent five years in small animal practice, where she obtained RCVS certificates in radiology and cardiology. After taking up a lectureship at the University of Edinburgh, she obtained the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology and a PhD.
She then moved to the USA, working as an Assistant Professor in Cardiology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and then the Ohio State University. She has worked at the Royal Veterinary College since 2004, where she is a Professor of Veterinary Cardiology, and is currently Chair of the ECVIM Cardiology Specialty. Her clinical interests include feline cardiomyopathy, canine mitral valve disease, and cardiac imaging.
